Government:
The US is officially a constitutional republic.  It has three main branches of government: Executive, Legislative and Judicial.  It's capital is Washington, D.C.

The Executive branch is in charge of enforcing and enacting the laws, and is headed by the President and their cabinet.  The current president is Barack Obama.

The Legislative branch is called congress, and is made up of a House of Representatives and Senate.  The House of Representatives has 435 members, and represents each state proportionally to their population.  The Senate equally represents each state and has two senators per state.  This branch of government creates the laws for the nation, and both branches must approve a new law before it is official.

The Judicial branch is called the Supreme Court.  It is made up of 9 Supreme Court Justices.  Each justice serves a life term, and their responsibility is to ensure that the government's laws and actions are constitutional.

Economy:
The United States is the largest and most technologically developed nation in the world.  It has a GDP per capita of $46,900.  That means that the average income per individual in the work force is $46,900.  The overall GDP is $14.26 trillion and it is the second largest in the world.

The overall labor force in the US is 154.1 million people, and there is an unemployment rate of 9.3%.  12% of the nation's population is officially below the poverty line.

While some of the nation is agricultural, primarily in wheat, corn and grains, the nation's main focus is on industrial production and providing service.  Major industries include, but are not limited to: petroleum, steel, motor vehicles, and telecommunications.
